Atlantis Internships Give Students Real-World Work Experience, Leading to Future Opportunities “I would like to work in a school district as a pediatric occupational therapist and work with kids with special needs,” said Sarah Moniz, a senior in the Medical Academy. Six Atlantis seniors participated in paid internships at Lower School through DESE's HSSIEP program. Moniz will be attending Worcester State University this fall in the accelerated master’s program for occupational therapy. To help prepare for this next step, she interned in Ms. Patterson’s 2nd grade inclusion classroom, a general education classroom where students with and without learning differences [...]

Credit for Life Fair

Money Matters: Students Get a Lesson in Practical Money Skills  Imagine you're a 25-year-old professional making $45,000 per year. Using your monthly salary, savings, and credit cards, could you purchase everything you need to live as an adult? That was the challenge posed to Atlantis 11th and 12th graders during the Credit for Life Fair held on January 26 in the Upper School Student Center. For more than a decade, Credit for Life has taught Massachusetts high school students about real-life budgeting and money management. This is the first time Atlantis has hosted the event on campus since before the pandemic. [...]

We are thrilled to have him coach the Varsity Tritons this fall. The football team is a co-op with students from Atlantis, Bishop Connolly, and Westport.  We asked Coach [...]

Summer Fun and Learning

Atlantis Summer Program Prepares Students for the Year Ahead “Kids are learning through play, and they're having so much fun they don't even realize they're learning,” said Brenda Simonis, the grade 3-6 STEM teacher and the Director of Atlantis’s summer program. This summer, Atlantis offered a summer learning experience with a camp-like vibe in place of its traditional summer enrichment classroom program. The half-day program for rising 1st through 8th graders put an emphasis on academics and social-emotional learning through play. Each day began with an opening ceremony, just like it would at a traditional summer camp. Students gathered in the [...]

JA H.S. Heroes Teach Financial Literacy

Lower School students learn about money from Atlantis juniors and seniors through Junior Achievement High School Heroes program For years, Atlantis has opened its doors to Junior Achievement (JA) volunteers who come in to teach life skills lessons to our students. But this year, the program at Atlantis looked different than it has in the past. Instead of volunteers from the South Coast community, we had volunteers from our very own Atlantis community at the front of the classroom. 14 juniors and seniors participated in the JA High School Heroes program. They were assigned to Kindergarten and 1st-grade classrooms to teach [...]

Birthday Celebration for WWII Veteran

Atlantis 3rd Graders Made Cards and Posters to  Celebrate WWII Veteran’s 102nd Birthday Third graders cheered, waving American flags and holding up posters as a silver Toyota SUV drove slowly around the loop outside Atlantis’s Lower School. In the passenger seat, with a huge smile on his face, was soon-to-be-102-year-old WWII veteran Joe Bucko of Swansea. All Mr. Bucko wanted for his birthday this year was birthday cards, so his daughter posted about his wish on Facebook. Word quickly spread on social media and local news and Atlantis 3rd grade teacher Grace Nunes had an idea. “I was touched because he’s [...]

Tritons Print Shop

STEM Students Design and Sell Custom 3D-Printed Products at Tritons Print Shop  There is more than just food to buy at lunch these days at Atlantis Charter School. The Upper School cafeteria is now home to the Tritons’ Print Shop. Students in the STEM Academy are busy creating an assortment of custom-designed 3D printed items to sell to students and staff. STEM Academy instructor Jared Booker came up with the idea to build enthusiasm for the program. “We want to get students excited about the class,” said Jared Booker. “In the past, we used our 3D printers to print pipe fittings. New Construction on Campus

Atlantis Adding Third Wing to Campus Image courtesy of Vanguard Modular Building Systems Atlantis is adding classroom space. The school broke ground on a new, 20,000 square foot building that, when complete, will provide an additional 18-19 classrooms and some administrative space. Like the school’s gymnasium complex, the new building will be constructed using permanent modular construction. This means it will have a standard foundation, but the walls and ceilings will be pre-assembled off-site and brought to the campus for installation, like a giant Lego set. The new building will be located across the parking lot from the Lower [...]
