Launching the EMS Tritons Academy:

A New Opportunity for Future EMTs

The Realities of Working as an EMT

Being an EMT is both physically and emotionally demanding. It involves long hours and exposure to high-stress situations.

Career opportunities exist in diverse settings such as 9-1-1 services, fire departments, private ambulance companies, hospitals, urgent care centers, laboratories, construction sites, offshore industries, cruise ships, and large-scale recreational events.

Introducing the EMS Tritons Academy

Atlantis Charter School (ACS) is excited to hopefully be approved to start for the 2025-2026 School Year

This program has been developed in partnership with our Medical Academy Instructor, who has 19 years of experience as a Paramedic and 12 years as a certified Instructor Coordinator.

We have applied for accreditation through the Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) and the Department of Health (DPH) and anticipate official approval soon. Once accredited, ACS will be the third high school and the first charter high school in Massachusetts to offer this program at the high school level.

Program Information

  • ACS will offer this opportunity to six Medical Academy senior students who meet academic and behavioral expectations, allowing them to enroll in the EMT Program at no cost. If additional spots are available, any senior at ACS will have the chance to apply.

  • The selection process will include an application, a written essay, three recommendations, and an interview. ACS will cover all program expenses, including tuition, textbooks, study materials, uniforms, application and exam fees (for the first attempt only), and transportation.

  • The 38-week, 332-hour EMT program will train students to provide emergency medical care outside of a hospital setting. Students will learn to assess injuries and illnesses, provide basic life support, and transport patients to medical facilities.

  • To successfully complete the program, students must maintain a GPA of 80% or higher, obtain CPR certification, and pass both state and national exams to earn their EMT certification.

Building Career Pathways

Following accreditation, our Program Director plans to collaborate with local EMS agencies to help graduates secure employment in the EMS field. This partnership will ensure that our students have the opportunity to immediately apply their skills and begin their careers as EMTs after earning certification.

With the launch of the EMS Tritons Academy, ACS is opening doors for students to enter the healthcare field with a strong foundation in emergency medical services. We are proud to support our students in pursuing a meaningful career that saves lives and strengthens our community.
