2019 ACS Boys Varsity Soccer Team
The Atlantis Charter School boys Varsity Soccer team earned the school’s first-ever state playoff victory by defeating Cape Cod Academy 4-1 on Tuesday in the first round of the South Sectional Division 4 State Tournament!
This was the team’s first year playing at the Varsity level, and they achieved a regular season record of 10 wins, 3 loses, and 5 ties. This gave them the #4 seed in the tournament.
The rainy weather Tuesday didn’t dampen players spirits. They couldn’t wait for the game to start.
ACS seniors honored before game
Before the game, seniors Philipe DeSouza, Jonathan Turcios-Serrano, and Alex Amaral were honored for their years of dedication to the team.
It was clear from the start that the Tritons came to play, and inside of the first 3 minutes of the game, Alex Amaral scored the first goal, assisted by Miguel Vianna-Almeida. That goal set the tone for the match. The Tritons stayed aggressive for most of the contest. They took a 2-0 lead after a goal by Luis Flores.
In the second half, Cape Cod pressed the attack and cut the lead in half to 2-1 with a goal by Andrew James.
The Tritons responded quickly as Mayson Branco scored just a minute later to push the lead back to 2 goals. That goal was assisted by Gabe Vilela. As the game was nearing the end, freshman Andre’ Coelho-Filho scored the last goal, assisted by David Duarte.
Coach Mello and Coach Madeira congratulated the team on their playoff win, but were quick to mention that the team was not done yet. The next playoff game will be held at Atlantis Charter School on Saturday Nov. 9 at 12pm. The Tritons will face either Sturgis East or Bishop Connolly.
